JERSEY SHORE — The woman injured in Monday night’s fatal crash on Route 220 outside the borough in Porter Township was Kari Greenaway, 53, of Lock Haven, who was treated at UPMC Williamsport, Lycoming Regional police said Wednesday.
Greenaway was traveling south in the northbound lanes of the four-lane highway just before 7 p.m. when her Mercedes crashed into a northbound Subaru Forester driven by Michael Kurelja, 38, whose only known address was the state of Illinois, police said.
Kurelja was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy done Wednesday confirmed that he died of blunt force trauma injuries, according to the Lycoming County Coroner’s Office.
After hitting Kurelja’s vehicle, Greenaway’s SUV clipped a trailer being pulled by a truck before overturning and catching fire, police said.
The woman managed to climb out of the wreckage and sprint across the southbound lanes, where she was hit by the side view mirror of a southbound vehicle, police confirmed.
There was a report that Greenaway may have been hit by a second car, but police could not confirm that as the investigation into the crash was ongoing.
It is still unclear as to where Greenaway entered and began traveling the wrong way on the highway, but on Tuesday police were looking into one possibility that she may have entered at the Thomas Street interchange, east of the crash scene.
