Montoursville’s academic decathlon team heads to state finals for 18th year running

Montoursville Area High School’s academic decathlon team took fourth place in the recent Academic Decathlon of Central Pennsylvania’s regional competition at Penns Valley High School in Spring Mills, qualifying them for the state finals for the 18th straight year, according to a press release from the district.

Medal Winners

• Scholastic Division — senior Naomi Zeigler, gold in Essay; silver in Music, Art and Economics; bronze in Literature, and bronze for Overall Score.

• Varsity Division — junior Reese Peterson, gold in Essay, Social Science, Economics and Interview, and gold for Overall Score; senior Nick Eboch, silver in Literature and bronze in Social Science and Math; sophomore Noah Smith, gold in Science and bronze in Math.

Also competing from Montoursville were sophomores Morgan Hood and Alex Martyniuk, and freshmen Addison Beck, Nadia Farenish, Eva Farquharson, Charlie Jackson and Alexis Zimmerman-West.

The district shared that South Williamsport also qualified for the finals after taking fifth place in the regional competition.

The state finals will be held March 14 and 15 at Pope John Paul II High School in Royersford.
