CM swim teams see success at District 6 Championships
Over the weekend, the Central Mountain boys and girls swim teams each saw success at the District 6 Championship at Penn State’s McCoy Natatorium. Both squads finished in second, scoring 244 and 243 team points respectively, with the boys team set 20 PRs (17 individual, 3 relay) and the girls setting 12 (all individual).
For the girls, Camryn Bair led the way with second-place finishes in the 50 free (24.32) and 100 breast (1:04.86, PR), also helping the team’s 200 and 400 free relays and 200 medley team claim silver as well. Gabrielle Hosley followed her up with two bronze showings in the 100 fly (1:02.67, PR) and the 100 breast (1:10.89, PR) and Sloane Coakliy posted another in the 50 free (28.52, PR), adding to a seventh-place showing in the 200 free.
Abrianna Hosley took fourth in the 500 free (5:36.06) and 100 back (1:05.09). Lily McWilliams also finished with two medals, taking fifth in the 500 and sixth in the 200 free. Anna Stahl placed fifth in the 200 free and Zoe McElroy took sixth in the 100 back, dropping almost four seconds.
For the boys, it was Jonathan Hughes at the forefront of their success, claiming silver in the 100 breast with a program record time of 59.19 and adding a fourth-place showing in the 100 fly. Raiden Newcomer, Rhys Swift and Neil Kaluzny placed fourth in the 50 free (24.94, PR), 200 IM (2:19.08, PR) and 100 back (1:03.95, PR) respectively, with Swift also taking fifth in the 500 free (5:25.31, PR) and Kaluzny doing the same in the 100 free (54.39, PR).
Holden Long placed fifth in the 200 free (2:08.59, PR), Corey Matejovich placed fifth and sixth in the 100 back and 100 fly. Bryce Warren and Owen Wunder to sixth in the 50 free and 100 back respectively. And the team saw plenty of relay success as well, claiming silver in the 400 free and bronze in the 200 free and 200 medley.
As it stands, the PIAA State Swimming Championships will be held at Bucknell University on March 14 and 15.
