Williamsport’s Nasdeo, Piselli win gold medals at District 4 Class AAA championships

There wasn’t really a moment in Saturday’s 127-pound District 4 Class AAA championship match where Williamsport’s Collin Nasdeo wasn’t in complete control.
The Millionaire needed roughly 30 seconds to take a lead and just continued working and attacking in every way that he possibly could.
A two-point lead turned into three, then six. Before fans knew it, Nasdeo led by 11 points and never let up. Nasdeo not only won, he won convincingly.
The Millionaire major decisioned Selinsgrove’s Cael Badman to win district gold at 127 pounds, 13-3, and did so seemingly with ease on Saturday.
“I feel like honestly anything (I did was working). I felt great going in, I had no nerves, whatever was there I was getting to it,” Nasdeo said. “I was wrestling phenomenal. Everything was flowing.”

The win also gave Nasdeo his third consecutive district gold medal, something the Millionaire was more than happy with given the rough start to the year.
“I mean it’s great (to win gold). I feel like I had a little bit of a rough year this year, so coming back and winning the title itself, it feels good,” Nasdeo noted.
Nasdeo did a solid job in the first period countering Persun’s attacks and never let him take him down as he went ahead 3-1. In the second period, Nasdeo escaped to go ahead 4-1 before working on top and riding out the period to gain three more points and a 7-1 lead.
It was in the third period where a decision turned into a major. Nasdeo controlled the entire two-minute final period to secure six more points and won, 13-3.
“I was fighting off shots and stuff. I struggled with that a little bit this year,” Nasdeo said. “So to do that a couple of times this match was great.”

Nasdeo was one of four Williamsport wrestlers to secure a trip to the Northeast Class AAA Regional next week at Bethlehem Liberty. Joining Nasdeo will be Jordan Piselli (107, gold), Lauger Waldman (114, silver) and Jackson Raker (189, silver). The top 3 finishers in Class AAA advance to regionals.
Piselli wrestled outstanding at 107 in his first ever district tournament. He had a first-round bye and opened the semifinals with a fall over Jersey Shore’s Bradley derr in 2:49. He then outworked Shikellamy’s Jake Hendricks to secure a pin in the second period with 49 seconds remaining.
“I want the points for the team all the time. I don’t ever want the pin right away. It’s the biggest moment of my year, no point going out for a couple seconds and leaving,” Piselli said. “So I always want points on the board and then get the pin later (in the match).”
Piselli went ahead 3-1 early and earned three points by controlling on top en route to a 6-1 lead with 30 seconds remaining in the first period. Piselli did a great job turning Hendricks in the closing seconds, but couldn’t get a first-period fall as time ran out with Piselli leading, 10-1.
“His shot defense was good. It’s a familiar opponent, I wrestled him before and his shot defense surprised me,” Piselli said. “I got in deep a couple of times, but it was tough to finish.”

Hendricks and Piselli wrestled on Jan. 9 in which Piselli came out on top with a 17-2, 4:00 tech fall win.
“I wrestled him a couple months ago, but a lot can change and happen in a couple months,” Piselli said. “But I knew relatively the game plan.”
Waldman came up shy of gold in an extremely close match at 114 pounds against Shikellamy’s Max Hallman. Waldman trailed 1-0 after the first period but kept fighting and in the third, got a point with 59 seconds remaining.
Hallman would secure three points in that final minute to win, 4-2.
Raker is another Millionaire who wrestled well in the finals, but came up on the losing end. Raker battled Selinsgrove’s Ethan Miller and took Miller into overtime, but came up with a loss by decision, 5-2 SV.
