A total of 30 area wrestlers advance to Class AA championship semifinals at districts

Numerous area wrestlers are alive for gold medals after winning their opening quarterfinal matchups on Friday on the first day of the District 4 Class AA wrestling championships at Williamsport’s Magic Dome.

In total, 30 wrestlers from the area won their quarterfinal matchups to advance to the championship semifinals and keep their hopes for a gold medal alive. The tournament resumes on Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m.

Montgomery Manny Stoltzfus earned a fall in 2:35 over Midd-West’s Mason Kerstetter to advance to the semifinals at 107 while Branden Eisenhour of Montoursville defeated Norhteast Bradford’s Mason Alexander via major decision, 15-5 to advance. Williamson’s Zander Wilson also advanced with a tech fall over Hughesville’s Ethan Wodrig, 17-2, 3:01.

At 114, North Penn-Liberty’s Bryce Pequignot earned a tech fall win against Montoursville’s Coltyn Wagner, 18-1, 1:13 and Chase Wirnsberger of Warrior Run earned a decision win against Andrew Kapec, 6-4, of Sullivan County. Canton’s Lyle Vermilya beat Liam Seeley of Montgomery by decision, 8-6.

Gage Swank of Muncy and Teli Bobotas of Montoursville both won their quarterfinal matchup at 121 as Swank won via tech fall against Hunter Simonds of Williamson, 17-1, 2:28 and Bobotas pinned Lewisburg’s Nolan Altoft in 69 seconds.

At 127, Sullivan County’s Colton Wade, Montgomery’s Carden Wagner and Montoursville’s David Kennedy all secured quarterfinal victories to reach Saturday’s semifinals.

Hughesville’s Chase Shaner and Montoursville’s Blaize Vogel were quarterfinalist winners at 133 and at 139, Montgomery’s Brandt Harer was the only area wrestler to earn a quarterfinal win.

At 145, Canton’s Carson Rockwell earned a 9-2 decision over Kile Hartman of Hughesville. Max Furman of Montgomery lost by major decision, 15-3, to Line Mountain’s Nolan Savage.

Lewisburg’s Landon Wagner earned a 6-2 decision over Keagan Smith of Hughesville in the quarterfinals at 152.

Warrior Run’s Reagan Milheim, Hughesville’s Mason Mordan and Montoursville’s Hayden Harvey all won at 160. At 172, Gage Wentzel of Montoursville, Chase Wenrich of Lewisburg and Max Wirnsberger of Warrior Run earned victories.

At 189, Tyler Ulrich of Warrior Run pinned Canton’s Leland Pepper in just 36 seconds, Owen Kleinman earned a major decision win over Towanda’s Zack Lantz, 12-3, Wellsboro’s Ryder Bowen had a 7-2 decision win against Maxim Johnson of Line Mountain and Montgomery’s Coy Bryson earned a tech fall win over Williamson’s Timothy Freeman, 17-2, 2:29.

Muncy’s Austin Johnson, ranked No. 1 in the state, needed just 20 seconds to pin Warrior Run’s Isaiah Betz at 215 to advance.

Noah Johnson of Warrior Run, Williamson’s Luke Sottolano and Montoursville’s landon Morehart all earned quarterfinal wins at 285.
