Two charged in separate theft cases

Using a woman’s stolen credit cards, Zain Chestnut racked up nearly $100 worth of charges, buying fuel for his vehicle, a large pack of soda and eggs at the Nittany Mart, 2300 W. Fourth St., in early June, it was alleged in a city police affidavit. The cards belonged to Rajeeyah Hayes, who reported on June 9 that they were taken from her car, police said. The cards were recovered on Oct. 5 from Chestnut, 46, of 2411 Linn St., when an officer stopped his vehicle at an undisclosed location, the affidavit stated. Charged with access device fraud, theft and receiving stolen property, Chestnut has waived his preliminary hearing before Frey and is free on $10,000 bail.

In another case, on the afternoon of Nov. 21, just four minutes after Nathan Spotts walked out of the Jiffy Mart at 115 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Jersey Shore unaware that his wallet had fallen out of his pocket, Robert Kehoe walked into the store, saw the wallet on the floor, picked it up and put it in his coat pocket, Lycoming Regional police alleged in an affidavit. At no time did Kehoe, 46, of 122 Valley View Drive, Jersey Shore, make any effort to turn in Spotts’ wallet, police said. The entire incident was captured on video cameras in the store, police said. When questioned about Spotts’ wallet, Kehoe fabricated a story in which he claimed he picked up his own wallet after dropping it in the store, police alleged. He even presented a written statement that stated the same thing, police said. Charged with theft, receiving stolen and making unsworn falsification to authorities, Kehoe has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge Denise Dieter.
