Arrest warrant filed for man who failed to appear for hearing
A bench warrant for the arrest of John Coyle, 46, of Coudersport, was expected to be filed after he failed last week to appear for his preliminary hearing on Lycoming Regional police charges of DUI, receiving stolen property, possession of methamphetamine and marrijuana as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and four summary violations, according to court documents filed at the office of District Judge Denise Dieter. Driving a 2008 Ford Focus on Christmas Day, Coyle was stopped on Route 220 in Piatt Township after police determined the license plate on the car was stolen from Philadelphia, it was stated in an affidavit. It turned out there already was a warrant out of Delaware County for Coyle’s arrest so he was ordered out of the car as was a woman riding with him, police said. Both were searched.
Upon an officer noticing “a bulge” in the woman’s pants, and the passenger admitted it was a small amount of methamphetamine, the affidavit stated. A female officer responded and removed two packets from the woman’s private area, police said. Coyle admitted that the methamphetamine belonged to him and that he had recently used marijuana and methamphetamine on the couple’s trip to Philadelphia, police alleged. Police suspected Coyle was impaired, but he refused to submit a blood sample, the affidavit stated. Police obtained a warrant to search the car, and recovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia in their search. “There was no legal title, registration or insurance for the vehicle,” police said. Coyle was automatically placed in the Lycoming County Prison on the Delaware County warrant. There were no details available on that case Sunday night.
