Williamsport man killed in one of two I-80 crashes that occurred minutes apart

BLOOMSBURG — Nickolas Paddock, 32, of Williamsport, was killed Sunday night in a violent collision with a tractor-trailer truck on Interstate 80 near here, according to WNEP. Investigators at the scene told the news station that Paddock was traveling west on the interstate and for an unknown reason crossed into the eastbound lanes, colliding with the rig, which soon caught fire just before 7 p.m.
Paddock was rushed to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he died, according to investigators.
The fatal crash occurred about 10 minutes after another accident — not far from the one that claimed Paddock’s life — that took place in the eastbound lanes of the interstate in Scott Township, where another tractor-trailer truck overturned, police said. No one was hurt in the first crash, state police said.
The two crashes shut down a section of I-180 East in Columbia County until 5 a.m. Monday, according to the state Department of Transportation.
No other details were available Monday night.
