Shoplifting, drug charges among those lodged in district courts

Three face shoplifting charge in separate cases

Jessica Louise Brosh, a 50-year-old homeless woman, has been jailed on misdemeanor charges of shoplifting, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia after she fled Wegmans, 201 William St., with three pieces of pizza without paying for them on Jan. 31, city police alleged. She soon returned to the supermarket and was taken into custody, police said, adding that she had the marijuana on her at the time. Following her arraignment before District Judge Gary Whiteman, she was jailed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $2,500 bail. Police said this was her second shoplifting arrest.

In another case, Patrick Brian Haught, 34, of 616 W. Edwin St., has been charged with conspiracy to shoplift for allegedly conspiring with Kimberly Rhee in stealing $632 worth of merchandise from Wegmans on Oct. 30, police said. He has waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Aaron Biichle and is free on $10,000 bail. Rhee, 25, of 1809 Riverside Drive, South Williamsport, was already charged and has waived her preliminary hearing as well. She is free on $5,000 bail.

In another case Krista A. Norton, 39, of 918 Meade St., has been charged with misdemeanor shoplifting after she was caught trying to steal $236 worth of merchandise at Walmart, 1015 N. Loyalsock Ave., Montoursville, on Sept. 28, it was alleged in a borough police affidavit. She waived her preliminary hearing Monday before Whiteman.

Two inmates face an additional assault charge in separate cases

Brenda Denise Carroll, 46, and Harley O. Cutshall-Gates, 20, both inmates at the state Correctional Institution at Muncy on Route 405 in Clinton Township, have each been charged with felony aggravated assault as a result of separate confrontations with corrections officers, according to state police court files filed at the office of District Judge Kirsten Gardner. Carroll, failing to comply with several orders, was being escorted from a recreational area back to her cell on Oct. 3 when she attempted to pull away from officers, it was alleged in an affidavit. When she jumped back, she allegedly struck two approaching officers, both of whom were knocked to the floor, police said. One officer suffered knee and leg injuries while the other suffered a back injury, police said. In the other case, officers were moving Cutshall-Gates from her cell to a psychiatric unit on Oct. 12 when she began resisting and kicking the officers, it was alleged. The inmate was being moved because she had made statements about harming herself, police said. During a struggle, the inmate struck one of the officers in the arm, police alleged. Both women have been arraigned before Gardner and recommitted in lieu of $25,000 bail each.

City man charged with simple assault

Michael Alan Demers, 41, of 1300 W. Fourth St., apartment 4, has been charged with simple assault after pulling out a knife and threatening to kill Eric Dauber during an argument in the 900 block of Second Street about 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, city police alleged in an affidavit. The argument was over Demers throwing a beer can in Dauber’s trash can, police said. Following his preliminary hearing before District Judge Christian Frey, Demers was held for court and released on $5,000 bail.

Clinton County man faces felony theft charge

Travis Christian Klinger, 37, of Lock Haven, has been charged with felony theft after he stole Frankie Rodriguez’s 2005 Land Rover LR 3 from the 2400 block of Reach Road on the morning of Dec. 15, it was alleged in court documents filed at Frey’s office. Hours later, Klinger was detained after he was seen pulling into a parking lot with the stolen SUV on East Walnut Street in Lock Haven hours later, police said. He has since waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $15,000 bail.

Three face drug offenses in separate cases

Tyrone Anthony Riley, 33, of 647 Wildwood Blvd., has been jailed on two felony counts each of delivery of a controlled substance and illegal use of cellphone following his alleged involvement in the sales of fentanyl to an informant in the 800 block of Second Avenue in the city on Jan. 22 and again on Jan. 31, according to court records filed at Frey’s office by the county’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit. He has since waived his preliminary hearing and remains jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail.

In another case, Christopher P. Fischi, 56, of Hanover Township, Luzerne County, has been incarcerated on three felony counts each of delivery of a controlled substance and illegal use of a communication device for selling methamphetamine to an informant on three occasions between Nov. 3 and Jan. 17, state police alleged in court documents. Two of the sales occurred on Route 118 in Jordan Township while a third took place in the 1200 block of East Penn Street in Muncy Creek Township, police said. Fischi , who goes by the street name “Fish,” waived his preliminary hearing before Gardner and is jailed in lieu of $85,000 bail.

In another case, Kevin L. Connelley II, 36, of 401 W. Highland St., Avis, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was found to have on him methamphetamines plus two drugs without a prescription – xanax and suboxone – in the 100 block of Bridge Street in Jersey Shore about 10:10 a.m. on Sept. 20, court records filed by the Lycoming Regional police stated. Officers were called to the scene to investigate a report of a man who was unresponsive in a vehicle, it was stated in an affidavit. While en route, officers were told the man, identified as Connelley, had regained consciousness and was attempting to drive away, but he was stopped before leaving the scene, police said. He has since waived his preliminary hearing on the charges and is free on bail.

City woman accused of threatening to shoot a man

Angel Shaniece Norfleet, 21, of 2500 Federal Ave., unit 232, has been charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and evading arrest after she rushed up to a man screaming, telling him she was going to “shoot him in the face” during a disturbance in the 300 block of Market Street about 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 5, it was alleged in a city police affidavit.

Officers arrived and began to interview the man, who pointed to Norfleet as the woman who allegedly threatened him, police said. When the woman saw the officer, she took off running, but the officer chased her half a block before she was apprehended, the affidavit stated.

Norfleet was held for court Thursday and released on bail following her preliminary hearing before Biichle.
