TROUT RUN–Traffic patterns in Trout Run are changing and businesses are reopening as the area makes progress toward restoring normalcy to Lewis Township.
Officials say the US-15 off-ramp into Trout Run is now open to local traffic only and residents of the village can access Main Street from the ramp.
Owners of the Trout Run Travel Plaza expect to reopen sometime on Wednesday with Berry’s Trout Run Hotel opening at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
“We’ve cancelled bike nights for the time being because of the state of the roads,” hotel owner Jill Frey said, “but we are excited to be able to open the doors again.”
Trout Run United Methodist Church will resume services at 11 a.m. on Sunday as well.
Other buildings will need more time before they can serve the public again. Renovations to the Trout Run Post Office and the adjacent Lewis Township building are expected to take approximately one month. Anyone with a post office box at Trout Run can pick up mail at the Cogan Station Post Office.
Crews are set to begin construction on Monday on a longterm roadway, detouring all traffic around the destroyed Route 14 bridge. No completion date for that project has been set; progress will be announced as information is available.
Well water testing kits from the Department of Environmental Protection are now available at the Trout Run Volunteer Fire Co. Command Post. Residents should return samples between noon and 3 p.m. to the DEP office at 208 W. Third St., Williamsport. Those who are unable to turn in the kits personally should contact the Command Post to make arrangements for transport.
Donations of food items and cleaning supplies are no longer needed; monetary donations can be made at the office of State Representative Joe Hamm, 274 Broad St., Montoursville. Canned and boxed food, bottled water and juices, refrigerated and frozen foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, bagged ice, paper products, and cleaning supplies can be picked up until the end of this week at the fire hall.
