Geisinger looking forward to easier healthcare for all

For the residents of Lycoming County and the surrounding areas, Geisinger continues its work to make better health easier for everyone by investing in technology, new facilities, and staff to bring the care you need closer to home.

That’s already happening with the opening of the area’s newest hospital, Geisinger Medical Center Muncy. This beautiful brand-new three-story facility welcomed its first patients on Jan 10.

Geisinger Medical Center Muncy includes many state-of-the-art amenities such as its clinical decision unit (CDU), where staff can house patients to be monitored for up to 24 hours. Patients who require observation or further testing, or those who need to be admitted, are moved to the adjacent inpatient unit where they are treated accordingly. The CDU helps the emergency room perform optimally and helps shorten a patient’s length of stay.

“The inpatient unit and CDU is staffed with physicians, mid-level providers and nursing and support staff to best meet the needs of our population. We have a very skilled team that provides high-quality care to the community. Many of our staff working here also live in this community and are very invested in the success of the hospital,” said Tammy Anderer, CRNP, Ph.D., chief administrative officer of Geisinger’s north-central region.

The new hospital also offers many other services, including women’s health, pediatrics, oncology and surgery, among others.

Geisinger was among the first health care organizations in the state to provide COVID-19 vaccines — including at Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital, where more than 31,000 vaccines have been administered to employees and the public. That vaccine clinic has since moved and is now located at Geisinger Pharmacy Lock Haven.

Investments continue at Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital, too — most notably in the form of the on-site helipad completed this past summer. Located above the hospital’s emergency room entrance, this nearly $2 million investment allows Geisinger Jersey Shore staff to stabilize a patient, then transport them directly to another medical facility if a higher level of care is necessary.

“The construction of this helipad has helped save lives,” said Anderer. “Our investments show our commitment to making better health easier and more accessible for our neighbors. We’re grateful for the community support we’ve received for this project, and we’re thankful to have this helipad here for our community.”

The next major investment is the new family practice space, set to open in the upcoming months at Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital.

Starting at $2.99/week.
