South Williamsport students to present ‘Cinderella’

According to a press release, the South Williamsport Area School District theater department is set to present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella: Enchanted Edition,” a timeless fairy tale brought to life with dazzling music, enchanting characters and magical storytelling.

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella: Enchanted Edition” is a fresh and whimsical adaptation of the classic fairy tale, inspired by the 1997 television movie starring Brandy and Whitney Houston. Featuring 100 South Williamsport Area School District students on and offstage, this enchanting musical tells the story of Cinderella, a kind young woman forced into servitude by her cruel stepmother and stepsisters. With the help of her Fairy Godmother, she is transformed for one unforgettable night, proving that dreams really do come true.

The show, which features beloved songs like “In My Own Little Corner,” “Ten Minutes Ago” and “Impossible,” promises to delight audiences of all ages.

“I love how our big winter musical brings out all family members to join us! This is especially true with ‘Cinderella,’ with multiple sets of siblings from elementary to high school in this cast,” said director Jared Whitford.

“The coolest part of this is that several members of SWASD Class of 1969 returned to help since their granddaughters are all in the performances,” Whitford added. “‘The Grammies,’ as they have been lovingly titled, have been instrumental in building horses for the carriage, sewing costumes, and helping bring all the magic to this production!”

The show will be presented at the South Williamsport Jr/Sr High School Auditorium, 700 Percy Street, South Williamsport. Evening performances will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
