Over 50 residents brave cold for Wayne Township ice skating party

McELHATTAN — For those who enjoy spending time outdoors in the winter, this season has provided the right elements for ice skating.

The cold and wind didn’t deter those who participated in the Winter Ice Skating Party held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the ice skating rink in Wayne Township.

About 50 locals showed up, many spending a couple of hours on the ice. There were skaters with different abilities and everyone was respectful and helpful.

Smiles and laughter came from the sidelines as parents, grandparents and others spent time together and tried to stay warm. Many reminisced of their younger days when almost every child and teen owned a pair of ice skates.

Sponsored by the Wayne Township Supervisors and Wayne Township Recreation Committee, those who braved the cold were served steamy hot chocolate with marshmallows, warm pizza, kettle corn and water.

“The recreation committee would like to thank all of the donors as well as township employees, Arnold and John, for their efforts to keep the ice skating rink ready and in great condition throughout the season,” township officials said. “If you have lightly used skates that you would like to donate to the recreation committee or a walker, used for stability, please contact Mona Calhoun at 570-660-4809 or message the Wayne Township Recreation Board’s Facebook page.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
