Penn College had its opportunities in the final minutes, but Bryn Athyn did enough to hold on and prevent Penn College from winning in a United East women’s basketball playoff game, 51-47.

The loss ends Penn College’s outstanding season 15-11. Bryn Athyn (21-6) advances.

Rachel Teats hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds to play to cut the deficit to 49-47, but it was too little, too late in terms of a rally attempt. The Wildcats would foul with one second left, but Xion Spence hit two free throws for a four-point lead, sealing the win.

Bryn Athyn scored on a 3-pointer from Alayna Day with 1:29 left to make it a 43-43 game and then hit another 3-pointer with 51 seconds to play to give Bryn Athyn a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.

Penn College got off to a rough start in the first quarter and trailed 11-4, but a 21-point second quarter put Penn College ahead at the break, 25-20.

Penn College had four double-digit scorers with RaeAnna Andreas’ 12 points, Rachel Teats’ 11 points, Lexi Troup’s 11 and Gigi Parlante’s 10 points. Teats, Troup and Parlante all narrowly missed on double-doubles as well as Parlante had nine rebounds, Troup had eight and Teats grabbed seven.

Day proved to be tough for Penn College to slow down and limit as she scored a team-high 23 points while Zhymani Smith scored 11. Yonique Reynolds had a team-high 10 rebounds.
