At that point in time, Montoursville had a number of wrestles competing for first or third place. And when asked what it says that the Warriors had that many medalists, Eisenhour quickly noted it boils down to solid coaching.

“Just the great coaches and great partners. We push each other in the wrestling room. Our coaches push us … and we get it done,” Eisenhour said.

To put it plainly, Montoursville definitely got the job done on Saturday.

At the Central Sectional tournament, the Warriors had seven wrestlers win gold, one take silver, two secure bronze and one walk away with a fourth-place finish as all qualified for next week’s District 4 championship tournament. Montoursville won the team title with 231.5 points, edging out Montgomery (205.5) and Hughesville (169.5), two programs loaded with talent this year as well.

In total, 37 area wrestlers qualified for the District 4 championships and all 13 weight classes on Saturday featured an area wrestler winning gold.

“It means a lot to win sectionals here. We’re the toughest district in the state, wrestling some great opponents,” Eisenhour said. “I’m just glad I was able to pull through this time and get the win.”

Eisenhour (107), Teli Bobotas (121), David Kennedy (127), Blaize Vogel (133), Hayden Harvey (160), Gage Wentzel (172) and Landon Morehart (285) all were champions at Hughesville while Owen Kleinman (189) was a runner-up at his weight.

Montoursville’s Karter Stone (139) and Coltyn Wagner (114) were bronze medalists and Ryan Meredith took fourth at 152 after losing to Paton Derr of Muncy.

In addition to Montoursville’s dominance, Hughesvile and Montgomery saw plenty of district qualifiers. Montgomery’s Liam Seeley (114), Brandt Harer (139), Max Furman (145) and Coy Bryson (189) all won sectional gold while Stoltzfus (107) and Bryson Wagner (127) took silver, AJ Kroft (133) took bronze and Porter Hall (121), Raiden Felix (160), Evan Hugar (215) and Ethan Hugar (285) ended as fourth-place finishers.

Hughesville’s Keagan Smith was the Spartans’ only gold medalist on Saturday. Chase Shaner (135), Kile Hartman (145), Wyatt Gavitt (172) and Luke Stutzman (215) took silver, Ethan Wodrig (107) and Colton Woolever (285) took bronze.

Muncy’s Austin Johnson took gold at 215 while Kase Snyder (127) and Derr (152) of Muncy took bronze to move onto states, as did Roman Maiorana (107) who finished fourth. Loyalsock’s Ivan Baker was the only district qualifier to advance for the Lancers as he took fourth at 139.

Eisenhour and Stoltzfus squared off in a solid final. Neither wrestle was able to secure much offense in the first period as it was scoreless going into the second two-minute round. Eisenhour went up 1-0 early, but Stoltzfus was able to control the match and battle for three points and a 3-1 lead.

In the final minute of the third period, the two were tied at 4-4 and Stoltzfus nearly had a huge escape in the final 26 seconds, but was ruled out of bounds.

Eisenhour won in overtime in an exciting match with three huge points, 7-4 SV.

“Just get to my attacks. At the end of it on the edge, I tried that slap by because I was on the edge, I knew if I was in trouble I could get out of the way, so I just tried it and it worked,” Eisenhour said of the overtime period. “I believe that I could get the slap by and I could just move and get through this period.”

Eisenhour knew Stoltzfus is extremely talented as the Red Raider entered the final wtih a 118-31 record and won his 40th match of the season in the semifinals.

“I wanted this, I wanted to win sectionals and go into districts as highest seed and all that. Losing to him last time, usually I lose to kids that I already beat, so it was nice for me to beat somebody that I lost to,” Eisenhour noted. “I wanted it, I think that’s what helped me so much.”

In addition to Eisenhour, Montoursville saw Teli Bobotas win at 121 pounds over Gage Swank of Muncy by decision, 4-1. David Kennedy followed at 127 with a fall over Carden Wagner of Montgomery in 2:54. Blaize Vogel won at 133 with a 7-1 decision against Chase Shaner. Hayden Harvey won at 160 with a 5-3 UTB decision against Hughesville’s Mason Mordan and Gage Wentzel earned a tech fall at 172 in dominating fashion over Wyatt Gavitt, 18-0, 3:32.

The Warriors’ final gold was by Landon Morehart at 285 over Central Columbia’s Clayton Whitenight by decision, 7-0.

Kennedy attacked early in the beginning of the second period to earn the win by fall.

“It feels pretty good. Especially with a pin, I’m trying to work on 100 pins, I’m at like 90 now so that was a big deal getting the pin,” Kennedy said with a laugh. “I’m definitely hunting for it.”

Kennedy dominated with two falls on Saturday. His first fall came in the semifinals when he needed just 35 seconds to pin Hughesville’s Casey Mook. Then in the final, it was a fall over Wagner to give Kennedy win No. 150 in the process.

Kennedy noted that he tries to wrestle methodically against his opponents no matter who he’s facing.

“At the start I was trying to just move him and see where it goes. He was a lot more offensive than I was thinking and kind of shooting in and stuff,” Kennedy said. “I like seeing his moves and feeling him out, but kind of keep it nice and slow and try to feel him out at first.”

Kennedy has 17 pins after both of Saturday’s falls.

“I try to keep them more slow and methodical,” Kennedy noted. “As soon as the knee is near that head, I’m going for a cradle or if his shoulder goes under, I’m going for a half. I’m always looking for pins.”
